VHP2 reacts with concern to Philips's announcement that the company has been forced into a major reorganisation of its Drachten production site due to disappointing results.
Philips has announced through a proposed decision that part of its production in Drachten will be relocated to Indonesia and China. This decision was taken to safeguard Drachten's future position in the field of high-quality consumer products. The decision coincides with a period when the Drachten plant is precisely known as a centre of innovation and precision and recognised as one of the smartest production sites in Europe. This development is therefore unexpected, given Drachten's previous recognition as a key pillar within Philips.
This reorganisation will have a major impact on staff, especially employment in Drachten. Of the 1,700 employees, an estimated 400 will lose their jobs, including both flex workers and permanent staff. The reorganisation will be implemented in phases over a two-year period.
VHP2 is committed to minimising the impact of this reorganisation and providing appropriate measures to mitigate the impact on employees. For this, VHP2 will work closely with the works council and other unions to realise the best possible outcome for the affected employees.
