As part of the Metalektro image campaign ‘Importance of the sector’ is the youth platform Dukteep launched: a creative and energetic tech channel that introduces young people to the versatility and value of engineering in an appealing, fresh, creative way. With the clear aim of enthusing young people for a technical education and a career in engineering. Because the need is great!
Structural and growing deficits
The numbers speak volumes:
-
- By 2025, the number of enrolments in technical colleges will be over 8% dropped; the biggest drop in years.
- Universities are also seeing a sharp decline.
- In 2024, there were more than 60,000 unfilled technical vacancies.
- Projections show that over the next five years as much as 121,000 new technically skilled professionals are needed.
Research shows that six in ten young people find engineering interesting and like to learn by doing. Yet only a third see themselves working in this sector later. Dukteep wants to change that.
Activating young people with Dukteep
Dukteep is a youth campaign for and by young people. From the Dukteep Clubhouse, four young content creators bring technology to life, every week, with challenges, experiments and inspiring videos on YouTube and TikTok. The name Dukteep is a nod to duct tape, which, like technology, is indispensable, handy and multi-purpose.
